For Tech Startups: Building your startup to last in the age of data protection and privacy compliance
As tech startups, large amounts of personal data are Collected, Used, Disclosed to and Stored (CUDS) on a daily basis by the applications we build. With data protection and privacy enforcement ramping up, many startups run the risk of losing valuable funding to fines and reputational damage if they run afoul of the regulations.
We are pleased to work with BLOCK 71 Singapore, an ecosystem partner, to bring this complimentary presentation on incorporating Privacy by Design (PbD) to the start-up community to help startups ahead of the increasingly complex data protection and privacy landscape. You will learn about how certain measures can be taken to reduce the risk of data breaches and show accountability to the privacy regulators.
Bonus section on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The GDPR comes online on May 28 and organisations found to be in breach of it can be fined up to €20 Million or 4% of the company’s global annual turnover of the previous year, whichever is higher. If your startup does the following:
- Offer goods or services to European companies?
- Collect information of EU data subjects?
- Store and Process information of EU data subjects?
come and learn as we share measures that you can take to stay compliant with GDPR.

Conference on the New Era in Data Protection & Cyber Security: Preparing for the Unexpected
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which takes effect on 25 May 2018, is designed to protect the personal data of all European Union (EU) citizens. This new law will certainly reshape the way organisations approach privacy not only in Europe but around the world. The GDPR will apply to organisations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, EU data subjects. It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the EU, regardless of the company’s location. Organisations found to be in breach of the GDPR can be fined up to 4% of their annual global turnover, capped at €20 Million. Have you started planning for GDPR? Join us at this one-day conference jointly organised by the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) together with Straits Interactive and Fire-Eye where we will analyze the legal and operational aspects of the GDPR and how you can prepare ahead in this increasingly complex data protection landscape.
